Join me for a hike up the rarely traveled drainage below the Mill Creek Jumpoff and the towering cliffs of Galena Peak (9324) in Forest Falls.

This will be a 6+ mile out/back cross-country (no trail) hike up the boulder-strewn headwaters of Mill Creek. The creek is flowing and the waters are crystal clear - we'll be hiking up to a couple of waterfalls, so packing some water shoes might be a good idea.

In 1996, The Wildlands Conservancy acquired 1280 acres of wilderness on the Yucaipa Ridge, including Galena Peak, to save the upper reaches of Mill Creek Canyon from luxury home development and water resources exploitation. These parcels are TWC's Galena Wilderness Reserve.

DIFFICULTY: Moderate - no trail, some rock-hopping involved; 1600' elevation gain in about 3 miles.

7 AM MEETUP: Mill Creek Ranger Station parking lot, Rt 38. We'll carpool up to Forest Falls, & park at the Big Falls parking lot and hike up canyon from the Vivian Creek Trailhead. NOTE: a USFS Adventure Pass is required for parking in the Big Falls parking lot.

BRING: plenty of water for a hot day or a water purifier - Mill Creek is flowing nicely in the upper reaches.
