What we'll do
This hike is required for the May 18-21 Powwow Trail clearing crew, led by John Mattson and Susan Pollock. Other hikers are welcome to join us for an opportunity to share or pick up gear suggestions, and for a morning hike with other BWAC members.

We will meet at the picnic tables just outside the Fort Snelling State Park Visitor center. Dress for the weather. Crew leaders will be checking your rain jacket, rain pants, layering, and footwear. Well make sure that your pack is comfortable and that you have what you need, but not too much, for a safe and comfortable adventure on the Powwow trail. Your crew leaders will have examples of food storage, cook kits, and layering for the trail.

The gear list for the May 18-21 Powwow trail crew is being emailed to volunteers registered for the trip.

After the gear party we will head out for a three mile hike around Pike Island, a mostly flat walk featuring views of the Minnesota and Mississippi rivers. Well continue to get to know our fellow volunteers and talk about what to expect on our upcoming trips.

What to bring
Dress for the weather. Bring your full backpack if you are registered for the May 18-21 trip, 2 liters of water, a snack and at least two questions about what to bring or not bring on trail this May.

Important to know
Thank you for volunteering! We are excited to be getting out on trail and tripping with you.

How to find us:Fort Snelling State Park is located on Post Road off State Highway 5, just west of the main terminal exit for the International Airport. Meet in front of the visitor center, located all the way to the end of Snelling Lake Road.
