We will have a team workout for those that want accountability! We will split into groups based on work out level if need be. We will start with warmups, stretching and some weightlifting/resistance training/circuit activities and then go for a walk/run. We will also take everyones baseline data on the treadmill, so if youre not able to come on Saturday let Emily Morris know so she can schedule a time next week for you to pop by the center and get that test done (takes about 10 minutes). Our two PT students will also be joining us and leading some exercises. Its going to be a great time! See you on Saturday!

This is part of the "Team I Am I Can" (TEAM) challenge series which empowers you to achieve your fitness goals. This is not an exercise program. Rather, its purpose is to facilitate and motivate you to do the things that you already know are beneficial to alleviating symptomatic issues of Parkinson's. If you can walk 1/4 of a mile and have a neurological impairment and/or a movement disorder you may qualify to participate. Guests are certainly welcome too.

The TEAM will want you to articulate your long-term and short-term fitness goals. The method and activity to achieve the goal will be individualized. For example, the activities might include lap swims, walking, jogging, road biking and/or boxing. Second, groups would be formed according to activity and level of fitness/capability. Groups would organize themselves to foster the success of its TEAM members achieving their goals. There could be customized benchmark challenges or notable events. Historically the Austin Cap 10K has been the annual cornerstone event for the TEAM. In this event, particpants can either run or walked the entire 10k or were a member of a relay.

Since TEAM is for impaired individuals, objective indicators will be periodically measured and recorded. Of course, TEAM tracks improvements in speed, duration, or heart rate. More importantly, other measures are tracked to help members better manage their medications and inform them of their progress in maintaining their best walking and balance.
