Join us for our 1st field trip of the season to the Hornsby Bend Bird Observatory on the Southeast side of Austin. This birding hot spot is located at Austin's biosolids recycling facility just north of Bergstrom Airport on FM 973. This site seems to regularly report unexpected birds. The waste ponds attract shorebirds and the riparian forest along the Colorado River attracts neotropical songbird migrants.

You will need to stop and give your name at the entrance gate, but the facility welcomes birders. We will meet at 8:00 at the office building parking lot on the right immediately after you drive through the entrance. Please plan to arrive early so we can arrange carpools and start promptly at 8:00 to avoid some of the heat.

Signups for this trip will open on September 2. Our trips usually last about 3+ hours. Remember to bring your binoculars, water and a snack if you wish. You will need sun protection and wear closed toed shoes as we will be walking trails.

Please note that Williamson Audubon Group field trips are intended for our dues paying members. You are welcome to attend one regular field trip as our guest, but you should be a paid-up member to come on subsequent trips. To become a paid-up member, go to the "More" tab at the top of the home page and then select "Files" on the drop down menu to get the membership form and dues information. You can also pay your 2017 dues by attending WAG's quarterly meeting on August 14, 2017 at the Georgetown Library at 7:00 PM.
