The U.S. Department of State wants you to know that January and February are the best months to apply for or renew your passport. During these months processing times are lower, only 4-6 weeks for routine service and 2-3 weeks for expedite service. Expedite service costs an additional $60.
In fiscal year 2017, the U.S. Department of State processed a record breaking 19.6 million passport applications and they anticipate those numbers will rise in 2018. If you wait to apply for your passport during peak summer months, it will take longer to get your passport.
The Atlanta Passport Agency is hosting a Passport Day on Saturday, February 10, 2018. The event on Saturday is a convenient way to apply for children, apply for the first time, or renew your passport. Some foreign countries require up to 6 months of validity on your passpor to enter.
