Door County Newport State Park

Oct. 12 15, 2017

Newport State Park, northeast of Ellison Bay, is Wisconsin's only formally-designated wilderness park. With 2,373 acres and 11 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, the park offers quiet alternatives to bustling Door County. Explore 30 miles of hiking trails with hike-in campsites. There are evergreen and hardwood forests, wetlands and upland meadows.

Group Limit: 25 people.

Newport State Park is about a 5 hour drive from Chicago.

Expected Temperatures: Expect daytime highs to be around 60 and nighttime lows to be in the low 40's.

We will be camping a group site at Newport State Park. It is about a mile hike to the campsite (group site G). Carts are allowed. I will be bringing 1 cart. There are only pit toilets at the site. There are flush toilets at the Visitor Center. There are no showers. There is also a beach there for swimming.

Newport State Park is located along a rugged shoreline near the north east end of Wisconsin's Door Peninsula. Designated a Wilderness Area by the Wisconsin DNR, it offers almost 30 miles of hiking and biking trails. Through boreal forest, wooded uplands, meadows and 11 miles of shoreline, there is something for everyone.
