SUP Newbies Unite!!! Are you ready to try stand up paddle boarding but haven't had the opportunity yet? We'll supply the equipment. You just need to show up with your sense of adventure, have some fun and get a nice workout at the same time! After everyone gets comfortable on the paddleboards, we'll explore the Ocean Ridge area of the Intracoastal which offers us some calm, flat water and if the tide cooperates, we'll paddle into a nice mangrove area.

Who should come? Any one who wants to learn how the basic strokes needed for stand up paddle board in a safe, flat water environment. This may seem obvious but I have to say it; you need to know how to swim. The lesson will last under a half hour with the remainder of the time for practicing your new skills paddling around the Ocean Ridge area. If you have paddled before, please feel free to attend this meetup. Just let me know if you need to rent a board. For those who have paddled previously, board rental is $30 for meetup members and their guests. If you have your own equipment; please feel free to attend this meetup as well! Donations to cover meetup costs are always welcome.

What will be provided? You must RSVP for this event so we know how many boards to bring. The cost of the rental and instruction for Paddleboard Palm Beach County members and their guests is $40 for 2 to 2.5 hours. Due to an unacceptable number of no-shows; starting December 017, we will be asking for payment in advance. We will offer a raincheck if the meetup is cancelled if the meetup organizer cancels for weather or any other reason. FOR THIS EVENT, WE WILL STILL ACCEPT PAYMENT AT THE EVENT BUT PLEASE CHANGE YOUR RSVP BY FRIDAY IF YOU CAN'T MAKE IT. Our sponsor, Paddleboard Connection, will provide top quality stand up paddle boards made here in the U.S.A, American made Werner paddles, safety equipment such as leashes and life vests as required by the U.S. Coast Guard. The instructor/guide is an ACA (American Canoe Association) certified SUP instructor. The ACA has been around since 1880 so they know paddlesports including SUP.

What should you bring? Other than your sense of fun and adventure, you need to wear clothes that you can get wet in. Most folks don't fall into the water but this is a watersport so it's OK to get wet. It's advisable to bring sun screen, bug spray, inexpensive sunglasses, a hat that you can get wet and will stay on your head easily, water to drink and maybe a snack if you think you might need it. Remember when it's 'winter' in South Florida and it's chilly; we're still paddling. Just bring an extra long sleeve shirt or light jacket and believe me, you warm up quick once we start paddling! :)

When: Good weather for paddleboarding means 'not much wind'. Wind conditions for flat water paddling are usually at their best in the morning which is why we paddle in the morning most of the time. Arrive about 15 minutes before the start time so we can get your equipment fitted and be ready to start the lesson by 9am.

Where: Carefully read 'How to find us' above. If you have a question about getting to this location, please ask me. Parking is free. There are restrooms at this location. GPS sometimes doesn't work well with parks for some reason so make sure you know how to get to the launch before you leave the house.

About RSVPs and waitlists: Please remember to update your RSVP if you can't make it. WE BRING THE BOARD, PADDLE, LEASH AND VEST BASED ON YOUR RSVP. Please RSVP even if you have your own equipment. You won't be charged. It's just so I have a good idea of how many people will be coming. If you have your own equipment and still end up on the waitlist before a meetup; just come anyway and it will be fine.

How to find us:From I95, take the Boynton Beach Blvd exit east to Fed Hwy 1. Turn right on Fed Hwy 1. Go one short block. Turn left onto Ocean Ave. Continue to A1A & turn left. Continue north to Ocean Inlet Park. Turn left into park and left again once in the park.
