Hike in and camp in Edgemont, NC. We will hike in and camp at a really cool spot on Wilson Creek. The trail is # 258 on your map. Approx 1 hour hike in from trail head to a nice flat area that can accommodate 6- 10 tents nicely. The trail to camp is a little under 2 miles. Should be plenty of fire wood around. The site is near a nice stream also. The hike is moderately strenuous due to the possibility of having to climb over downed trees across the trail. This is a wilderness trail but fairly well worn to the camp site area. The trail follows upstream and soon becomes a little harder to find if you want to continue exploring after we make camp. This would be a nice beginner hike and camp that is a little more remote than some of the other camping trips. You will need to carry all your gear in on your back. Water can be filtered from the stream. If you dont have a filter system, Ill bring one large enough for several of us. The stream also has wild trout and I may do a little fly fishing up stream while others explore the area?? The drive to the trail head is approx 1hr 45min from the Dallas Ingles. We will meet there at 7:00 am and drive to Morganton and up 181 to Brown Mtn Beach Rd. through the Wilson Creek area to Edgemont. We will go past Coffee's General Store in Edgemont. Parking as usual is limited. PLEASE plan to car pool. I can carry 4 plus myself plus gear.(Pickup truck but bed is NOT covered) Plan to hike out around 11:00 or 12:00 on Sunday and stop at a really nice pizza place in Morganton on the way back. Moondog Pizza is fantastic with good brews too. Should arrive back to Dallas 3:00ish? There will be a meetup at OMB to discuss gear and the trip in more detail. Please plan to come if you are going on this trip. Come even if you are not and share with the group. April 05 Around 6:30 pm. Any questions use this thread or e-mail / txt me directly. Another note: This area is designated as a bear sanctuary. Although I have never seen a bear in that area, that dosent mean we dont need to be careful with food prep and storage. We will hang our food or use a bear canister for storage. I will bring hanging bag and rope. I dont use a canister due to the extra weight and bulk to carry in but you use whatever you like. We can all share the hanging method with extra bags....
