Update:The day of this event has been rescheduled from Thursday to Wednesday.

Hey all, the holiday season is creeping closer and closer, which means giving season is approaching as well! On Wednesday, November 15th, come join us for a special edition of our meetup focused on giving.

Giving has always been a big theme within effective altruism and we often find ourselves discussing it during our meetups. So this time well set aside time to let people share with the group which causes and organizations they have donated to (or are planning to donate to), and what helped decide. Or, if you're not sure about your donation plans, this event will provide an opportunity to share your thinking, ask for feedback, and learn from other people's giving plans.

Everyone is welcome to attend, and sharing with the group is optional. If you'd like to share with the group, however, please sign up here so we can coordinate:

You are also more than welcome to attend and listen to others, and/or discuss your giving informally with other attendees.

All cause areas are welcome - wed love to hear your thoughts.

Are you motivated to do something that makes the world a better place? Do you want to have the biggest impact you possibly can? We each have limited resources with which to affect the world. Figuring out how to invest these resources to accomplish the most good can be difficult, involving a lot of research and strategy. Fortunately, we don't have to do it alone.

Effective Altruism is a growing movement of people looking to maximize their impact on the world. We take our moral obligations toward others seriously and look for ways to do good for others that wouldn't otherwise be done.Whether you consider yourself a dedicated effective altruist, are curious about the economic and philosophical ideas behind the movement, or just want to do a little more good when you can, we're excited for you to join us!

EA-NYC has been meeting since 2014 to discuss these topics and build and reinforce the local EA community; as of 2017 we've grown to around 800 list members across Meetup and Facebook and werefeatured in the Wall Street Journal.
