What: Double your desert peak pleasure by climbing Mile High (5,386') and Villager (5,756') Peaks in the southern Santa Rosa Mtns of the Anza Borrego Desert State Park east Borrego Springs, CA. This cross-country (no trails) loop hike will cross the desert floor then climb the peaks while enjoying great views of the entire desert, nearby Salton Sea, & San Jacinto in the distance, all from a mile high desert perch. Details: approx. 16 cross-country / no trail desert miles & approx. 5,700' elevation gain (uphill). Hiking time: approx. 8:20 AM - 7:30 PM. Optional dinner stop afterwards at either the Red Ocotillo Restaurant or the Taco Shop in Borrego Springs for those interested.

Bring: 3.5 - 4 quarts or liters of H2O with electrolytes & 1 can be in a bottle that you can drop & pick-up later (might need more if you're a heavy drinker), snacks to eat while moving, lunch for the peak, light layers (windbreaker, beanie, gloves, down jacket optional, etc), hat / sunglasses / sunscreen, headlamp or light for our after dark finish, any first aid you need including "drugs", poles, gaiters, plastic comb & pointy tweezers for getting any cactus out, etc. Pre-hydrate by drinking in the AM & on the drive out.

My hiking style: we'll stay together as a group for both camaraderie & safety; we snack & drink while we move except for short bathroom breaks or pictures as necessary; I'll take around 45 min. breaks at both peaks to eat real food / sign registers / enjoy the views; I prefer to hike at a bit faster then average pace.
