Kingman and Heritage Islands Park, situated on the Anacostia River, is an underappreciated gem of DC birding habitats. With great wetland habitat, well look to see herons, egrets, and waterfowl such as cormorants. The spot also provides great fishing habitat for Bald Eagles and Osprey. In addition, the wooded sections of the islands provide homes to numerous songbird species.
We will meet near the entrance to Kingman and Heritage Islands in the parking lot of RFK stadium: https://goo.gl/maps/TBb9J/SPAN>
There is plenty of parking in the RFK stadium lot (although you may have to check multiple entrances before finding an open gate). The Stadium-Armory Metro stop is about a mile away. The Park's website hasdetailed directions for driving and public transportation.
As always, please be mindful of weather conditions, dress and hydrate appropriately, and use caution when traveling to new or unfamiliar birding locations.
