Target Audience

Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists,
Athletic Trainers, Nurses and Physicians dealing
with concussed athletes.


Purpose

This conference is focused on the educationof Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists,Athletic Trainers, Nurses and Physiciansdealing with concussed athletes. Providethem tool box to develop and implementevidenced based return to play formulas andprotocols: current evidence-based concussionmanagement options.

Objectives


Upon completion of this course, participants
will be able to:
Define the gender significance of concussionrates

Discuss the role of cervical spine andshoulder muscular strength as a potentialcontributor to concussion rates in thefemale athlete

Compare and contrast concussion recoveryrates of female and male athletes

Define current evidence-based Return-to-Play protocols

Outline current objective tools for Return-to-Play after Sport Related Concussion

Discuss the implications of psychosocialaspects of Return-to-Play after SportRelated Concussion

Define behavioral health symptoms in postconcussivesyndrome

List empirically based managementtechniques

Consider stigma and utilize this awareness tostructure recovery-focused conversationswith athletes

Apply timelines to the study of CTE, toinclude applied terminology

List cognitive, emotional and functionalchanges which occurs as CTE progresses

Compare and contrast current CTEdiagnostic tools which are beinginvestigated

Screen for vestibular and oculomotordeficits in the concussed athlete

Assess balance in the concussed athlete

Assess oculomotor deficit in the concussedathlete
