Clevenger Canyon is named for John Clevenger and his family, who settled in the San Pasqual Valley in 1872. The South Trail traverses hillsides full of low-lying coastal sage scrub and taller, denser southern mixed chaparral. Wildflowers emerge in the spring, coloring the hillsides with lilacs and other blooms.

The South Trail splits and reaches a 1,550-foot summit on the west fork, with sweeping views of San Pasqual Valley. The east fork takes hikers to two summits, at 1,755 feet and 1,635 feet, with views of Boden Canyon and beyond to Palomar Mountain, Volcan Mountain, and the Laguna Mountains. The east fork features something unusual: two wire-mesh chairs bolted to a boulder from which you can survey the surroundings.

We'll start off with a Short Leash Social to establish calm energy and sit/stand as a group. We don't encourage our dogs to sniff, play or interact with each other because certain behavior while on leash can often be misunderstood by reactive dogs. If your dog is reactive let others know verbally or by having your dog wear a yellow bandana.

Our goal is to walk as a pack - close enough for positive interactions - far enough as needed if your dog is reactive. Well take a few water breaks. Stop at the end for a group picture and then head back.

DOG OWNERS:
All dogs are welcome. We encourage you to take extra precaution to make all canine interactions positive.

If your dog tends to lunge or is reactive, please let other dog owners around you know that your dog needs their space and stand in the outer circles so youre further away from the other dogs.

Our aim is to create a safe, structured and non confrontational way to socialize our dogs. Parking can get busy. Allow for enough time. If the main parking lot is full then you can park at the down at Library which you will pass on the way to the lake.

DOG RULES:
This a short leashed event. We want to teach our dogs to coexist in peace and learn to manage anything that might trigger them. If you have a reactive dog - a yellow bandana helps signal your dog needs space.
