Let's go climbing at Point Dume! It's a beautiful place to climb at...right on the beach!
We're meeting at Starbucks and carpooling over. We want to get there pretty early to avoid traffic and the later crowds, so we're going to head out at 6:00am. The Starbucks we're meeting at is at 14061 Jeffrey, Irvine, CA 92620. It's right off the 5 and Jeffery exit in Irvine. Please be on time! We'll wait for about 5-10 minutes before we head out.
If you can't carpool with us, you can just meet us at Point Dume. There are several places to park, the most convient being on 7103 Westward Beach Road, Malibu. The parking lot is pricey at $14, but if you park at the far end of it, it's only a short walk to the cliffs. If you're lucky, there's a free 8 spot parking lot at the top of the cliff at 29188 Cliffside Drive, Malibu and lots of free street parking next to The Sunset Restaurant at6800 Westward Beach Rd, Malibu. It's about a half mile walk down to the beach from the free spots. We'll get to Point Dume between 7:30-8am. Just give me a call/text at [masked] when you're there.
I have gear, but bring whatever else you usually bring for a climb. If anyone has gear to build gear/artificial anchors (cams, slings, long webbing, cordelette, locking carabiners), please bring them as well since I only have enough for one top rope anchor.
At minimum, please bring your own climbing shoes. I have a few harnesses people can use, but be sure to leave a comment so I know to bring them. We'll set up some top ropes for y'all to work on. We'll probably be working in the[masked] level, but we can go harder or easier depending on the group.
Climbers of all level are welcome! It's best if you have at least have some indoor climbing experience though.
We'll climb for a few hours and head back when we get tired. We'll probably have several cars head out from Starbucks, so if you have a certain time you have to be back by, arrange that with the carpool you're in.
Bring some snacks and water! We'll be at the beach too, so bring whatever you usually bring to a beach. Camping chairs and canopies are nice.
Please RSVP and any +1's so I can get a rough headcount.
Oh, and the typical legal liability blah blah blah. This is just a meetup of friends climbing together, so everyone is responsible for themselves and their own safety. I've helped many people learn how to climb for their first time, so I'll be happy to teach anyone, but I'll be teaching you as a friend and assume no implied or explicit responsibility.
This is gonna be fun! Post a comment if you have any questions!
