Clergy and Laity for Affordable Housing (CLAH) Spring Endeavor 2018

Saturday, April 14 and Saturday, April 21, 2018

Mattapan Public Library (Worksite locations to be announced)

1350 Blue Hill Avenue, Mattapan, MA 02126

Clergy and Laity for Affordable Housing (CLAH) is an alliance of congregations and individuals organized by Cooperative Metropolitan Ministries (CMM) seeking to work on two fronts with Greater Bostons crisis in affordable housing:

  1. We seek first to help persons and families in immediate need through illness, loss of work or other setbacks by remodeling or restoring homes. Typically, we put together a crew from urban and suburban communities of men, women, and youth, to work on a Saturday, a holiday or other day of convenience. Projects are chosen as determined by application through participating congregations.
  2. Second, we are working strategically with developers, people in the building trades, and funders. We seek to put together a strategy to obtain property and build affordable housing, offering a fair rate of return on investment without pricing out people with community roots. A part of this collaboration is toward enhancing social services and common space in the interest of neighborhood security.

If you can provide financial assistance, please mail a check made out to Cooperative Metropolitan Ministries, with the notation CLAH, to CMM, 474 Centre Street, Newton MA 02458. We will buy essential building materials with your contribution. For more info, please call 617-244-3650, or email info@coopmet.org.

Spring Endeavor 2018: This is our second Spring Endeavor. In 2017 we put work into two properties. Our purpose this spring is to renovate 2-3 homes, doing basic and restoration work and repairs. We have chosen to do this around the period of school breaks, National Volunteer Week (April 16-20), and Earth Day (April 22).

Schedule:

  • Saturday, April 14, 8:00am 3pmGather together at the Mattapan Public Library for instructions and directions. Begin work at sites.
  • Saturday, April 21, 8:00am 3pmComplete Projects and Celebration
  • (Possible additional day of Sunday, April 22, 2 - 5pm to be determined)

Stay tuned: Information and Registration to come. Volunteers are welcome to an opportunity to be photographed with Jesse Jackson on Thursday, April 19th.
