Celebrate Chinese New Year!

ChinaFest - Year of the Dog

Volunteer assignments range from handing out agendas and prizes at the welcome and survey tables to assisting with art activities to ushering for films and live performances.

The ideal volunteer timeframe for Feb. 10 is from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Volunteers will receive a lunch break with a voucher to Best Caf during this time. While this is the ideal timeframe, we do understand that it will be a long day, so will also have volunteer shifts from 9:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 12:30-5:00 p.m. There will be a volunteer orientation related specifically to this event on Fri., Jan. 26, with a time option from 10:00-11:00 a.m. or 6:00-7:00 p.m. The orientation sessions will be held in the Claiborne Robertson Room on the third level of VMFA, down the hallway from Amuse Restaurant. The Claiborne Robertson Room will also be the volunteer check in and break room on Feb. 10. While it is not mandatory to attend one of these sessions, it is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED as we will go over the activities and logistics for Feb. 10. Volunteers who attend this session will be able to signup for their preferred assignment, will receive a parking pass, and will receive service hour credits.

If you are available to assist with ChinaFest, please provide me with the following information at [masked] or at[masked]:

-Whether you plan to volunteer for the full day, morning, or afternoon shift on Sat., Feb. 10;
- Whether you will attend the morning or evening orientation session on Fri., Jan. 26.
(truthfully I didn't attend orientation last year and I feel I did OK) :) If you know of others who might be interested in volunteering for this event, please forward them this information. It is a great opportunity for volunteers looking for service hours for school or extracurricular activities, and it is a great opportunity for intergenerational volunteering for families. Volunteers should be at least 14 years of age and able to work independently with little supervision. Younger volunteers can be considered for some assignments, but please contact [masked] in advance to discuss.
