Have you done C2C and taken the Tram down but thought about hiking back down instead?

Well this is the hike for you! C2C2C AKA Cactus to Cloud to Cactus

Total Mileage:30 +/- Miles

Total Time: 18 +/- Hours

Elevation Gain: 10, 800

Elevation Loss: 10,800

Summit: 10,834

The plan is to do this hike in Three Stages.

Stage One: Palm Springs Art Museum to Tram Station
This stage will be 10.5 miles with an 8,400 elevation gain. The last 3 miles is the steepest part of the hike. Once we make it to the Tram Station we will take a 15-minute or so break to refuel.

Stage Two: Tram Station to Tram Station
We will continue to the summit San Jacinto Peak. Once at the top take pictures and a small break then head back to the Tram Station where we will refuel.

Stage Three: Tram Station to Palm Spring Art Museum
Once we have filled up on water and food we will start the final stage of the hike. For this stage poles are highly recommended for the first part of our decent. After the first 3 miles, we will cruise our way back to the Art Museum.

Here is a good write-up on the C2C hike:

Please note it could be very hot in the desert, and there could be snow near the peak! Here's the plan:

Friday, May 11th: Drive to Palm Springs after work and stay in a hotel near the Palm Springs Art Museum (there are no campgrounds near the trailhead, but a few affordable hotels). I plan to stay at Best Western Inn at Palm Springs, where I stayed last time. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ARRANGE YOUR OWN HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS AND CARPOOLING!!!

Saturday, May 12th: Wake up very early and start our climb to San Jacinto Peak. The hike will take all day. We will have a celebratory dinner, then go back to our hotel rooms and crash for the night. I tentatively set the start time for 3am. However, we could start earlier if the weather is hot. You are welcome to start earlier (on your own) if you wish to get a headstart.

Sunday, May 13th: Drive back to Phoenix If I haven't scared you away and you'd like to join me, please sign up on the waitlist.

Due to the difficulty, I will screen all participants to make sure they are well suited for the hike. I will move qualified hikers to the "going" list. To qualify for this hike:

- I must know you. If I don't know you, I will ask for a recommendation from other hike leaders.

- You must be an active and reliable BCH member. If you have a history of "flaking out" on past hikes, don't expect to get on this one!

- You must ALREADY be in shape for this hike. I have many great training hikes already on the calendar - please plan to participate in at least a few of these.

- You must be self sufficient and able to hike on your own (DON'T EXPECT ANYONE TO WAIT ON YOU!)

Please note the following:

No pets and no kids please.
