Jun 17 6:30AM - 7:30AM

Meet at the LaVerkin Maverick (link above) at 6:30am or the Wire Pass TH at about 9:00am. Plan to be back to the cars by about 4:00 or maybe 5:00pm.

This will be an out and back day hike into the longest and deepest slot canyon in the world. We'll go about 10-12 miles roundtrip.

The day use fee for this area is $6.00 per person. Bring Cash : )

There is no serious scrambling on this hike, just a couple of chockstones that require some maneuvering. Other than that just keep in mind the typical safety precautions that go along with slot canyons.

I will be following the weather forecast and won't hesitate to cancel if weather looks bad.

Last weekend the first handful of miles of Buckskin were bone dry- but if it precipitates in the meantime- there could be stretches of cold brown water and muck; you may want to bring along your water shoes. At the very least- something you don't mind (comfortably) walking through up to waist-deep water in : )

It can be chilly down deep where the sun doesn't shine, so consider bringing an extra layer. The changes in temps even within the canyon are actually quite surprising- especially if we get wet. On the other hand, once we emerge from the canyon narrows into the wash, mid-afternoon, it will probably be a very hot mile back to the cars.

Bring at least 2 or 3 liters of water, snacks and food for all day.

Aprs hike - Always the potential to stop for dinner in Kanab or somewhere else on the way back depending on how everyone's feeling.

Hope to see you out on the trail!
