The hike to Brushy Mountain via Trillium Gap begins at the Trillium Gap Trailhead. It gradually climbs to Grotto Falls at about 1.2 miles. This is the only waterfall in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park that you can actually walk behind and stands at about 25 feet tall. With the rain we've had this week, hopefully we have a great waterfall to cool off in! At just over 3 miles, you reach the junction of Trillium Gap and the Brushy Mountain trail. Turn left for Brushy Mountain, or turn right for Mt. LeConte. The last half mile or so to the summit runs through rhododendron and mountain laurel until opening to a clearing with views of Charlies Bunion, Mountain Sequoyah, Mountain Chapman, and more.

Directions to Trailhead (you should be able to put into GPS though):
Starting from Light 8 in Gatlinburg, turn onto Historic Nature Trail / Airport Road. After driving 0.7 miles veer right onto Cherokee Orchard Road, upon which you'll enter into Great Smoky Mountain National Park. After driving another 2.2 miles you'll enter the one-way Cherokee Orchard Loop Road. Drive 0.9 miles on the loop before turning right onto the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. The parking area for the trail that leads to Brushy Mountain will be on the left side of the road after driving roughly 1.6 miles along this one-way road. The trailhead is located just beyond the parking area on the opposite side of the road. Due to the popularity of this trail, there are additional parking spaces further up the road. Your best bet is to arrive early during the peak visitor season.
