Join The Heritage Trail as we start off the Battle of Bound Brook with our own BBB. (Breakfast Before the Battle)
The Van Horne House was the objective of this short but important battle in 1777. General Lincoln, living at the Van Horne house, was awakened at the last minute and escaped in a "state of undress" to rally the Continental Army. General Lord Cornwallis broke his fast with the meal prepared for General Lincoln that morning. The Continental Army successfully pushing back the British on the same day, Generals Lincoln and Green enjoyed the supper made to Lord Cornwallis' specifications in this house,
We celebrate this event by serving breakfast and a program before guests head to the battle reenactment just down the road. Lazarus Turner will present "The Battle of Bound Brook, I Was There". This presentation will immerse listeners in the colonial life of Somerset County in 1777, during this often overlooked Revolutionary War battle. Learn General Cornwallis' plans for the battle, the reasons behind the attack and uncover details from Hessian Colonel Ewald's diary. Decide if you are a Patriot or Loyalist and experience 18th century patriotism! David Lang as Lazarus Turner.
In the 1700's people ate 'family style' and so a waffle bar is totally apporpriate.
