We will be shooting the Milky Way at the scorpion and grasshopper statues. If that area is too crowded I will come up with another alternative. Milky way should be up by 4. Sunrise is at 6:57. We should be able to get in a good 2 hours of shooting. Since the MW will be low in the sky, this will be a great opportunity to do a panoramic series with the statues in the foreground. Yes, this shoot starts really early. Welcome to Milky Way photography. We will leave Christmas Circle at 3:35. What to bring? Your widest fastest lens, sturdy tripod ( that can go low ), remote shutter release to lock open the shutter, and flashlight with red light capability. Red flashlight prevents you and the rest of the group, from losing night vision. I will go over light etiquette when we meet. Also helpful; chair, snack, something to drink, jacket ( it could get cool ), and a white flashlight to find your way in the dark. If you have never photographed the Milky Way before this is a great time to start. The Milky Way is probably the hardest shot to get, and the most difficult to process, but the rewards can be wonderful. I will lead you through it (shooting part). A couple of days before the shoot I will send out a list of camera settings. Be sure to know how to operate your camera in the dark. Above image: 16mm, f2.8 ISO[masked] sec.

A word about weather. If rain or total cloud cover is in the forecast, shoot will be cancelled. If partly cloudy is forecast, we will do some light painting and hope the clouds pass through.

Once everyone gets their perfect shot we can do some light painting. Play around with a flashlight. Do some shots like the above image. If anyone has something they would like to try, let me know.

Please no shooting guests. The "perfect shot area" is pretty small and extra people can cause problems. If someone wishes to come along for the ride that is fine. Just be aware that they can't take a shooting spot.

Kendall's restaurant opens at 6 for anyone interested in breakfast. As a side trip, shooting the desert flowers is a possibility. Given the lack of rain the flowers won't be plentiful. It will take a bit of searching to find them. Not making any firm plans on this. See how things go. Might be pretty tired after being up all night.

If you RSVP to this shoot and don't show up, you will not be permitted to sign up for any of my future night shoots. This applies to my night shoots only and not any other PPS shoot.
