This partial loop ride will begin at the start of the Capitol Crescent Trail in Georgetownwhere Water St. crosses under the Francis Scott Key Bridge (K St. becomes Water St. as you go west under the Whitehurst Freeway) . We'll meet under and just to the west of the Key bridge in the open area beside the trail.

We will follow the Capitol CrescentTtrail to its terminus at Borders Book store in Bethesda, pass under Wisconsin Ave. to connect to the Georgetown Branch Trail. We will then get on the Silver Spring Green Trail, which connects to Sligo Creek Trail, and exit that trail in Takoma Park and enter into northeast DC via residential streets, ending up at the Brookland/CUA metro stop. At that point, I will be returning to the Columbia Heights neighborhood on city streets. Total distance is about 25 miles and flat. If you prefer, you can complete the circuit by taking the Metropolitan Branch Trail to Union Station and then bike along the Mall to Rock Creek Park trail and finish at our starting point. My friends and I used to jokingly refer to this circuit as the "bicycle beltway" as it roughly circumscribes most of northwest and northeast DC. What better way is there to play hooky from work on the last Friday in August?

Please be in good biking condition to be able to bike at a steady pace for about two hours. We'll only take one 15 minute break.

Bring water bottles and snacks for a little break in the middle. We'll cancel if rain is forecasted at 7:30 AM the morning of the outing.

SCPRO requests a donation of $2 for administrative costs of the group.

How to find us:I'll have a Sierra Club tag on the trunk to my bike
