Beginners Bike Touring to Croton Point Park

718 Cyclery bike shop in Brooklyn is hosting an overnight touring trip ("micro-tour") to historic Croton Point Park in upstate New York! If you have ever wanted to try out touring but didn't know where to start, this is an easy overnight trip to help you learn the basics! Over 90% of this ride will be on car-free paved bikepaths. The rest will be on city streets with a brief segment on a state route.

For this trip you will need to bring:

Bike bags or panniers to hold camping gear

A sleeping bag, sleeping pad, tent

Packed lunch and camping food for dinner and breakfast (example I'll have a camp stove that everyone can use. Also, energy snacks.

Water bottles or hydration pack

Sunscreen, toiletries, rain jacket

Spare tube, patch kit

If you bring your bike to the 718 store, someone will take a look and recommend the best way to set up your bike to carry the gear. also has an excellent guide to bikepacking bags

We will have several off-road touring trips this summer and fall, so this is a great way to test the waters, brush up on old bike camping skills, or learn some new tricks for planning a fun and easy tour!
