The AFRCC's Basic Inland SAR Course (BISC) is being held at Porter County Emergency Management inValparaiso Indiana in September 2017.
Course Description from AFRCC:
The BISC was developed to bring "SAR from a Federal perspective" to the men and women of the Civil Air Patrol and others from local, state and federal agencies within the United States. The course is administered by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center.
The class is conducted over a weekend from 0800-1700 each day. The course could be administered during the week, if that is more suitable to your needs. The course consists of lessons with PowerPoint presentations, and ends with a tabletop exercise of a search scenario.
Specific areas covered include: SAR Network Overview, AFRCC, Resources and Mission Types, Radar and Cell Phone Forensics, Beacons, FAA, Mission Operations to include search theory/family and media.
To schedule a course in your area contact your regional training office or State Emergency Services Training Officer. Minimum requirements for a course are - provide at least 16 attendees and choose a venue that can accommodate the lecture/table top exercise. For those personnel wanting to attend, which may be outside the area of instruction, the course manager at the AFRCC will accept names. However, the local POC will be the person with which they will want to make all arrangements.
The focus of the course is to provide an environment that will allow the attendees to discuss their past experiences, concerns for SAR and do that "all-important" networking that is needed to provide a cooperative SAR network.
