This should be a great warm up trip for the 2018 backpacking season - a little more than five miles each way to a beautiful camp near the beach. We will be staying ONE night at Wildcat Camp in Point Reyes. This is a great trip for beginners and I expect it to be a very mellow hike.

Wildcat Camp is located in an open meadow on a bluff overlooking the ocean. It is an 9 km (5.5 mile) hike on the Coast Trail from Palomarin with access to Bass Lake. POINT REYES NATIONAL SEASHORE DOES NOT ALLOW DOGS OR BICYCLES ON THIS TRAIL. I have reserved site 3A/B (a group site) for us. The camp has piped water and toilet facilities.

I will take care of getting the camping permit and parking passes (we will figure out carpooling and how many passes we need as the date gets closer). Be aware that vehicles parked overnight in the National Seashore without a valid parking pass are subject to citation.

Our reservation is for one night, hiking in Saturday February 10th and hiking out Sunday February 11th. If you reserve a spot please plan to attend, rain or shine. If rain is a deterrent, please don't sign up (it is February, after all). Everyone responsible for their own food and gear. The campground fee will depend on the number of backpackers who attend. Figure about $5 per person.

Once we are settled in our camp, we will be taking a hike along the beach from Wildcat Camp to the south, where you can get a full view of Alamere Falls. It is a dramatic 40-foot free fall, one of the rare ocean bluff waterfalls anywhere. It is a beautiful shore hike to the falls with lots of amazing seascapes.
