Ready to backpack? Join us for an overnight trek during the years best meteor shower. Well see alpine wildflowers and flows of volcanic glass in the Obsidian Falls limited entry area. This scenic loop has it all, taking us through pine forest, cinder fields, waterfall and lush meadows of Three Sisters Wilderness.

Our trip begins in dense forest for the first three miles, opening into red ash plains and remarkable views. Next we'll hike along the PCT, collect water at Minnie Springs, camping near a recent volcanic cone to watch shooting stars. Hikers have the opportunity to scale this feature (Collier Cone 7534') from camp.

To return, we'll cross a stream at Sawyer Bar and visit more alpine meadows, capped by an amazing glassy ridge of obsidian, with a nice waterfall before reaching the trailhead. (GPS track) (Route description)

Adventurous Young Mazamas (AYM)offers outdoor activities year-round targeted to younger adults in their 20s & 30s and anyone who is young at heart. All activities are open to everyone eighteen and over who can safely participate in our events.

We're part of theMazamas, a 501(c)(3) mountaineering nonprofit based in Portland. Follow our activities here on our Meetup Page and on ourofficial website, where you can find additional activities that may not be advertised through Meetup. We offer adventures including hiking, camping, backpacking, cycling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and social events that relate to the outdoors.

Firearms, alcohol, smoking, or drugs are not allowed at our events. Pets are only allowed if the leader of has specifically designated the event as pet-friendly.

Our events usually have small fees which go toward direct event costs and services, such as support for events and leader training and emergency assistance. Leaders are volunteers and receive no portion of event fees. We carpool to most outdoor events and expect passengers to contribute to the cost of transportation and any parking passes. Standard Mazamas rate is 10 cents/person/mile though contributions are at the discretion of drivers.

All AYM leaders have first aid and CPR training and have been vetted by our committee for their skills and experience. Participants must follow the instructions of leaders in order to protect group safety. Leaders reserve the right to only include participants who are adequately prepared, amicable and safe.

Please treat other participants with respect and consideration. Many of our events have more people wishing to participate than we can accommodate. Please only RSVP yes if you are committed to attending.

Meetup provides a platform for people to become friends through shared interests and activities. Part of building trust and friendship starts with using an identifiable profile picture of yourself, so people know who you are and we can find each other - especially when meeting the first time.

This is a group to meet friends for outdoor adventures, rather than a dating site. To join, others must feel comfortable and safe with you, and your behavior and online communications must remain appropriate. On social media, please follow us onFacebook,Instagram, andFlickrwhere you can also see many pictures from our events.
