This is an easy overnight backpacking trip along the AT from Rockfish Gap to Paul Wolfe shelter. Hiking distance is appx. 5 miles over most easy terrain with a few moderate uphill sections. There aren't any great overlooks along the route but we cross several nice creeks and the remains of a cabin and graveyard.

This hike is perfect for those who'd like to try early winter camping without getting too far into the backcountry. There is water, a pit toilet, and a very nice shelter. You could actually leave your tent at home and sleep in the shelter so your pack weight would be lighter.

We'll plan on meeting and carpooling from the BK on Sat morning. Please bring normal overnight gear, tent, sleepingbag/ground pad, cook stove, food, trail snacks, headlamp, rain jacket, a mix of clothing to suit the weather, And of course your sense of adventure.

There is a very nice overlook appx. 2 miles (uphill the whole way) south of the shelter that we could dayhike to. The full moon will be that Sun so it might be worth the effort. If you choose not to do the hike you can stay in camp and gather fire wood.

This is a very nice hike that almost anyone could do. I'm more than happy to share my time helping anyone prepare that would like to go but are unsure.
