5:30 meet (riding by 5:45). We will circle back past the parking lot between 6:00 and 6:15 if you can't make 5:30 (be ready to ride and flag us down as we ride back through).

This ride is hosted by Class Cycles in Southbury and all riders, including meetup members, must sign their waiver each year. The ride is also cross-posted on COA and FBU meetups. The ride is fine for advanced beginners and seasoned riders. Cyclists who are skittish about riding on the streets will appreciate the very limited street riding (only to connect the gaps in the rail trail).

We will ride North first to the Newtown line (stopping before the single track), then double back heading South past the parking area, then continue South into Trumbull, then double back again heading North to the parking area. Optional bite and drinks afterward at a local restaurant. This is a no drop ride. We typically split into two groups, one slower (12 mph) and one faster (15 mph) pace. Folks joining us should be capable of riding at a minimum of 11 to 12 MPH on a dirt trail. Event leaders will vary with each ride depending upon their availability that week.

20 miles if you ride the entire length, 16 if you come at 6:00. You can turn back at any point and easily get back to your car, therefore less mileage is an option. This trail has crushed stone, dirt, gravel, and some pavement. Bikes with "wider" tires are best here, i.e. hybrids, cyclocross, MTB, or road bikes with wide tires. It's a beautiful trail with varied scenery that follows the old railroad bed through the woods of Wolfe Park, Great Hollow Lake, and the Pequonnock River. Relatively flat with a few very small hills.

Please note: You are responsible for you own safety helmets are mandatory! Bright front and rear lights are required in the Fall but recommended the rest of the year. Make sure your bike is in good working condition. Bring a spare tube that fits your bike and water too! If your bikes wheels need a wrench to be removed bring a wrench too.

Class Cycle, COA and FBU are not professional outdoor organizations, do not charge for events and make no profit with the sole purpose being to enjoy cycling with like minded adventurers. Outdoor activities like cycling have dangers and you take those risks upon yourself by participating in our events. It is your responsibility to determine if your fitness level and health would allow you to participate in our events.
