This is a beautiful area; often referred to as the alternate Buffalo. Majestic carved canyons line much of this trail.
There are several maintained campgrounds along the trail. This will likely be a thru-hike. We'll meet at the Sylamore Creek Camp to rendezvous. From there we'll shuttle up to the trail head of choice; there are several options.
The entire trail is 23 miles. I did the full length last year in late July when it was 95*. NOT going for similar stupidity on this jaunt, however. Dewey killed two hogs among a nest of about 20 that we surprised. "Hogs" is an overstatement. They were about his size. The rest were all sizes. He handled the hogs while I climbed a tree.
My initial suggestion is to trailhead at Barkshed. From there it's about 4 miles to Gunner Pool Campground. From there, we'll hike another 5 or so miles to Blanchard Springs Caverns and camp nearby. From Blanchard it's about 4-5 miles to terminus, at Sylamore Creek Camp, our initial rendezvous. For you retentive types, ignore the math.
WE CAN MAKE THIS 2 DAYS if the group'll tolerate it.
The trail doesn't hug with creek for most of the time, so water to hike/drink will be carried. HOWEVER, we will be camping by water, so don't worry about that......
This is a stop-for-pics trip. Let's do it.........
[I've got some video from last year. I HATE video editing but I'll try to get it done and post what I have].
