What:A day hike loop tour of the 5 Peaks along the San Bernardino Divide Trail: San Bernardino Peak (10,649'), East San Bernardino Peak (10,691'), Anderson Peak (10,864'), Shields Peak (10,701'), & Alto Diablo (10,563') - but hiked in the reverse order just listed. We'll start at the South Fork Trail passing Horse Meadows, Poopout Hill, and South Fork Meadows before climbing up to Dollar Lake Saddle where we'll continue west along the San Bernardino Divide Trail (& do a small bit of easy off trail hiking) to climb these 5 peaks & to check out the water sources along the way at High Meadow Springs, Trail Fork Springs, & Limber Pine Spring, passing the Washington Monument (no not that one silly) before dropping down to Manzanita Spring and eventually ending at the Forsee Creek Trailhead (note: a short car shuttle is involved). See some pics of this hike & area:

Details:This hike is approximately 22 miles long with around 5,000' of elevation gain (uphill) & is mainly on trail with a small bit of easy off trail hiking. A pure estimate of hiking time is approximately 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM with short breaks at each peak to sign the peak registers, take a quick picture, eat a quick bite. But we'll mainly be eating & drinking AS WE HIKE much of the day.

Bring: either a minimum of 4 - 5 quarts or liters of H2O with electrolytes (maybe more if you're a heavy drinker or it's hotter than normal) ... or ... instead / better yet, just bring 1.5 quarts or liters to start with (& the capacity to carry up to 3 quarts/liters) + a water filter, steri pen, or other water treatment device to get more water at the creek at Sth Fork Meadows (approximately 4.6 miles into the hike) & again very late in the day / early evening at Limber Pine Spring about 5.8 miles from the end (or Forsee Creek later IF Limber Pine is dry); snacks to eat throughout the day WHILE MOVING, some more substantial "real food" for the short breaks at a peak or two, light layers for any wind up high (wind breaker or jacket or fleece, beanie, gloves, etc.); hat / sunglasses / sunscreen, a headlamp with fresh batteries for our possible at or just after dark finish (unlikely but depends on how the day goes so it's possible), any first aid / medication you need, hiking poles are helpful, gaiters optional, etc. Pre-hydrate by drinking ahead of time all day Fri. & again in the AM Sat.

My hiking style:we'll stay together as a group for both camaraderie & safety; we snack & drink while we move except for short bathroom breaks as necessary & at the peaks to sign registers & snack; I'll hike at a bit faster than average pace (2.5 - 3 mph on the flats, 2 - 2.5 mph on the uphills ???).
