ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Python is increasingly being used for data science, but its still easiest to share results on the web. Luckily the Plotly team has written libraries for both Python and Javascript, and you can migrate from one to another by simply sharing the JSON used to build the chart. In this workshop well be using the Python Pandas library in a Jupyter Notebook to do some basic data analysis. Then well create some data visualizations with Plotly, and then transfer our final visualization to Javascript.

All participants will need their own laptop. You do not need to install any software, all work will be done in a web browser. You will need to register for two free accounts to follow along. First, create an account on Microsoft Live to work on the notebook in a web browser. You can register for an account here:

https://notebooks.azure.com

Participants will also need to create a GitHub account for the final segment of publishing a chart with Javascript. We will be editing a GitHub Gist to view our final chart on bl.ocks.org. (You dont need an account on bl.ocks.org, it will automatically display anything you make with GitHub Gist.)
