Volunteers: Volunteers are essential to the success of any Special Olympics event and are always needed.
Dress: Come dressed for the weather! Layers are always a good idea. Sunscreen, water bottles, snacks and a small daypack are essentials to having a good day.
Food: We will provide lunch for volunteers that serve all day, but please plan to accommodate special dietary requirements on your own. We can offer half-day shifts from 7:30am-12:00pm and 11:30-4:00pm.
Pets: Please do not bring pets, but service dogs are always welcome.
Smoking: Special Olympics Colorado promotes healthy lifestyles, so please do not smoke near the venues or around participants and spectators. Always abide by the venue smoking policies.
Day of event check in: Look for the volunteer registration banner to check in. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian sign their waiver. These can be emailed out in advance, if needed. All volunteers must show a form of ID at the volunteer registration check-in.
What to expect: Expect anything! We may assign you to hand out awards, but then have to move you to help refill water jugs or judge an event. There are a number of tasks that we may need help with. Some of those include the following: timers, score keepers, awards, registration support, runners, etc.You can expect to have a great time and to be energized by the Special Olympic athletes.
