Seniors and Mental Health: Let's Talk About It
Jody Weiler is a specialized geriatric clinician at the Canadian Mental Health Association of Waterloo Wellington. Jody has 20 years experience working with seniors with mental health and cognitive challenges, as well as their families and care teams. She holds a Masters degree in clinical social work and Bachelors degrees in Sociology/Anthropology and Gerontology. Jody will share some of the common myths about mental health and aging, and how to recognize you might need help.
Ross Knechtel is the local Senior of the Year (2016) and an avid volunteer and member with the Guelph Wellington Seniors Association and the Guelph Wellington Mens Club. He has lived with a mental illness for most of his life and currently serves as the President of the Mood Disorders Support Group of Guelph and Regional Coordinator for the Mood Disorders Association of Ontario. In his professional life, Ross was high school teacher, community College instructor, government scientist, consultant, professional driver, and much more. Ross will share his very personal story and home-grown strategies for positive mental health.
In addition to these guest speakers, there will also be a mental health information fair, and Spark of Brilliance art installation, created by seniors.
