Our area is unusually rich in a wide variety of rock types that formed under differing conditions over a very broad span of geologic time. Come along as we drive to easily accessible nearby locales where we can observe interesting outcrops of sedimentary, volcanic, metamorphic, and intrusive rocks that represent more than a third of Earths history. Along the way get a feeling for the vast geologic history that can be observed in these rocks and the astounding transformations that this area has undergone throughout the eons.

We will be carpooling.

Program details:
Ages 13 yrs - Adult

You will meet the educator near the entrance of Lookout Mountain Nature Center. From there, the group will caravan to the various points of geologic interest.

Since we will be carpooling, please consider if you would be willing to offer room in your car for other participants. We would like to keep the carpool as small as possible. Valid driver's license required.

This is a driving tour. There will be no hike on this program. You will need to be able to walk from your car to the geologic point of interest but this will be short and relatively flat ground.

Please bring what you think you may need to be comfortable during the program. We recommend water, hat, sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, snacks, and a pen & paper for taking notes if you wish.
